DEHRADUN: One-year-old Naman, who Uttarakhand chief minister Harish Rawat had taken under his wing as part of the Mukhya Mantri Bal Poshan Yojna about two weeks ago, was rushed to Delhi's Kalawati Hospital after he suffered from vomiting and other serious complications at Uttar Pradesh's Badaun town, where he had gone along with his father from Dehradun a couple of days ago.
Naman is the son of a vendor in Dehradun and had gone to Badaun to visit relatives a few days after he was adopted by Rawat.
Naman is among four children adopted by the chief minister under the scheme, in which such malnourished children, known as Nanhi Kaliya, are taken care of. A senior official in the state government said that minutes after CM Rawat came to know about Naman’s illness at Badaun, he immediately instructed the resident commissioner at Delhi, SD Sharma, and principal secretary in the child welfare and women empowerment department to ensure that the ailing boy was immediately admitted at Kalawati Hospital after being taken to Delhi for treatment.
“The state government will bear all the expenses incurred on Naman’s treatment at the hospital,” said principal secretary (child welfare and women empowerment) Radha Raturi, talking to TOI. A senior official in Delhi informed TOI that the boy was being treated and the hospital had assured that they would provide him the best care.
